Appearance:
Mello has the rare feat to look like a cool leather-clad villain and a deranged little girl at the same time. His face is slender and sharp and crosses the line to girly prettiness, its most prominent feature (besides the scar, see below) being the large almond-shaped eyes which more often than not look some stage of mad. His feminine traits aren´t helped by the chin-long blonde hair with bangs hanging over his eyes, or the way he dresses.
Standing not-so-tall at 1,70 m and weighing 52 kg, he seems delicate, which he makes up for with quick reflexes, and a memorable fashion sense. Mello dresses in leather fetish clothes (which are supposed to be biking attire but ...well), black gloves and furred pimp coats, which make him hard to overlook. He has something feral and mischievous in his gestures and a wide range of facial expressions, which is the reason he sometimes hides behind sunglasses since his face usually talks. Being energetic and explosive by nature, Mello can be really lively, but also stealth and cold when he needs to. He tends to rather lounge than sit.

As a constant reminder of his recklessness, the left half of his face and much of his torso is covered in a mosaic of severe burn scars, which he himself doesn´t perceive as disgusting. He wears them with pride, accentuating that he´d rather go down than back down.

Personality:
Having dealt with matters of life and death (usually death) most of his life, Mello is quite the no-nonsense person. He´s emotional, but not sentimental. Mello is adventurous, zealous, and ambitious to the point of criminal insanity, a side of himself that he is very much in touch with. He is driven and obsessed, but no mindless maniac. Despite being tense most of the time, he does have a playful side, likes to be challenged, and is not above glee when he comes out on top of things (or people). And he is a complete materialist.

Mello is clever and calculating and has great interest in manipulating people. Even though he´s not the biggest friend of humankind there ever was, he likes to communicate and get to know people, even if it´s only for the purpose of sizing them up. Except when he is currently busy with something, in which case shut the hell up, because he does have a one-track-mind and gets really focused on his goals. Although he is furiously proud, he´s not afraid to get down in the dirt to get what he wants.

His attitude towards others is cocky and arrogant, but he knows how to make friends, although he might not be the best friend to have. He can be cool and cautious as well as quick-tempered and easily offended. He´s probably not aware of how irrational and vulnerable he really is.

Abilities/Strengths:
As a person, Mello´s strong suit is perhaps his spontaneity and ability to adapt to unexpected situations, no matter how unpleasant. Making connections and discovering new territories is something he likes and is quite good at. He has a curious nature, is quick on the uptake and doesn´t hesitate to take action. On the practical side, Mello knows how to steer a motorbike through a high speed car chase with grace, has expert knowledge of explosives, and is a good marksman. During his times in the mob, he has also picked up some effective torturing and assassination practices, and knows how to effectively saw a body into pieces and hide it, though he might not need that feat in Econtra.

Weapons:
Mello carries a Beretta Parabellum 9 mm, which is a practical weapon and all he needs most of the time. For immediate safety, he also wears a little martial arts weapon around his neck, a kubotan, which is basically a very small club to knock people out with.

Weaknesses:
On the downside, Mello should hesitate more before he takes action sometimes. Always on the edge, Mello tends to act too rash and react too forceful. Certain people, and above all his rival Near, tend to bring that reckless and careless side out in him, which can lead to horrific results. Mello tends to obsess over his goals to the point where he forgets about precautions, or how his actions could affect other people. He has a fragile, unstable ego and suffers from insecurities that can be almost crippling at times. Since the explosion, he is also almost deaf on his left ear, a fact which he tries to cover up as much as possible because it makes him feel weak (and old). His concept of ethnics and loyalty is rudimentary. Being a materialist, he´s not immune to bribery, and at times can be bought and develop a mercenary-like attitude.
